Since Lillian is one of my younger sisters, we’ve known each other since forever! I’ve had the pleasure of watching her blossom into this amazing young woman. From us having to share rooms, to playing with dolls together, riding bikes outside, to helping Lill get ready for her first pageant, to singing in the choir together at church, to doing her makeup for prom, watching her cheer at football games, to her walking across the stage at her high school graduation, seeing her wave at AAMU’s homecoming parade as Miss Sophomore, and to seeing Lill give birth to a beautiful baby girl! I’ve been blessed to know her as not only a sister but as a lifelong friend. I am certainly looking forward to witnessing her walk down the aisle to marry the man of her dreams.
What can I say, it all started as a child sucking my thumb and following Lillian everywhere I could. Of course your (little) big sister will get on your nerves, I got on hers all the time. But she has always been so kind, humble, slow to speak quick to listen, patient, and so understanding. I'm blessed to say my sister is one of my best friends. I haven't known Johnnie that long, but on the several occasion of being around him, he has always been so kind and friendly. I can tell his actions are pure and he has Lillian and Caitlynn's best interest at heart. When Lillian talks to me about Johnnie, she can't help but smile. I see and feel the love all over her. So happy and excited for this new journey in their lives together. Many Blessings!!.
Lillian and I have been two peas in a pod since becoming line sisters in Spring 2008. As the Deuce and Quad, we were the smallest, youngest, and most playful members of our line earning us (along with Sabrina) the nickname The Three Musketeers. As time progressed and we matured, so did our friendship. Lillian is now one of my very best friends. And a true friend she is indeed. The loyalty, laughs, and support, combined with our daily commentary on all things family, fashion, and fun has been a blessing to my life. To know Lill is to love her and to know Lillian and Johnnie is to bear witness to true and unconditional love. I can’t wait for the big day and I am honored to share this moment with you two.
Lillian and I first met in the 6th grade at Ed White Middle School, and we have continued to be best of friends for nearly 20 years. Being friends for so long we have shared soooo many memories together, such as days filled with laughter, crying, and arguing:but I would not take back any of those times! Lillian has helped me with many hard decisions and I consider her my personal life diary. She always listen to my long and drawn out stories, then gives me great advice without any judgement. Lillian is truly the definition of an awesome friend! Honestly, I would be lost without her!
I feel honored to be able to stand beside her on her BIG day! Lastly, we know too much about each other, so we have no choice but to be BFFs for life.
Lillian and I are line sisters and friends. We've grown closer over the years as I've admired her mature into a loving, caring, and devoted mother and friend. When she called to talk to me about going on a date with "this guy from work", my advice was to go for it; it was just a date. Little did we know that it was more than just a date, it'd be the catalyst to a loving and exciting relationship. After the first date, there was always excitement in her voice as she talked about Johnnie; excitement about how great of a father he was, excitement for their next date or adventure together, excitement for everyone to meet him to see how wonderful he was, excitement for all things Johnnie. I'd never seen her this excited about anyone before, which made me team Johnnie very early on. When I finally met him in person and witnessed how they interacted with each other, I knew their love and appreciation for each other was VERY real, and after going out with them I realized their "turn up" is also VERY real! Lillian, I am honored you chose me to be a part of your special day! I love you both and I pray for continued blessings and a prosperous marriage for you two.
I met Lillian as Dom's little sister back in 1997 when Dom and I were on the Ed White Middle School cheerleading team. Ever since then, I have treated Lill as my little sister. Let's just say she is the little sister that I have always wanted. I remember in 2007 we both were on the Alabama A&M University Homecoming Court as Miss Sophomore and Miss Senior. She told me then that she wanted to pledge the best sorority in the world Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. just like me. So I made sure I put her on the Delta Delta SPR 08 line (thank me later) :) Over the years, she has become one of my best friends and I have enjoyed seeing her grow into the beautiful, intelligent and humorous woman she is today. I love you Lillian XOXO
Lillian and I met at work at the end of 2011 while working in the same Directorate. Shortly after that time, we started a rigorous 3 year intern program, and together we completed numerous classes, training, and career field development.
Although we've only known each other for 6 years, we've grown to become great friends. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the laughs and great memories we've shared throughout the years; whether it's been us communicating daily at work, a simple girl’s night out, or even the infamous movies and pizza outings with Cait and Jay.
Lillian is truly one of the wittiest, sincere, and sweetest people i know. Every once in a while you just connect with certain people, and i'm honored to say that Lillian is one of those people: )
I'm so excited and very much looking forward to being a part of her special day. Love ya Lill!!
Lillian and Johnnie I am so honored to be a part of your special day. Johnnie, it is clear to see the blessing that you have been in Lillian and Caitlynn's lives.
Lillian and I met while we were pledging Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc back in 2008. We were an instant duo affectionately known as Thing 1 and Thing 2. I have had the pleasure of watching her bloom into the God fearing woman that we see before us today. I know that Lillian will be your perfect helpmate. She is ambitious, yet patient and always speaks from a kind heart.
As you two embark upon this new journey in your lives, I wish you many blessings and I promise to always support you and your marriage. God has truly shown his love for you two by guiding you to each other.
Lillian and I met in 2007 at Alabama A&M University when we both joined SGA. She was Miss Sophomore and I was the Junior Class Treasurer. Our friendship was instant and I never knew then that this will be the beginning of us becoming lifelong sister friends. Just a year later, we became line sisters with Phi Beta Lambda Business Fraternity, Inc. and then again with the greatest sorority Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.! OO-OOP! So it is safe to say we have shared a ton of great memories together. Over the past 10 years, Lillian and I have developed such a special bond that I will always cherish. We have shared laughs, cries, advice, and so much more. It has been great witnessing Lillian’s evolvement as this faith filled career woman who is a wonderful mother, ambitious, outgoing, loving, and just a beautiful person inside and out. I am so happy that my sister friend has found the love of her life because she deserves it. Lillian and Johnnie are perfect for each other so it is exciting to witness this very special moment in their lives. I pray God will bless their marriage and family and I am honored to be a part of their special day! Love you guys!
You were quiet and shy when I first met you but after several family gatherings that has changed. LOL!!!
You are supportive and have great sense of humor. You always have time to listen and by your words and actions you show you really care. At some point, I realized that you were here to stay so what more can I say, but WELCOME TO THE IRBY FAMILY..
My mom is nice and a great mom. As my mommy, I think she is like a miracle and fanatastic. I am super excited about being in the wedding. I'm happy for mommy and Johnnie.
My brother Johnnie.
Since childhood you have approached life with a special zest, belief and confidence in your abilities to be the best which I have closely admired. Your mentality allows you to strive for the best in all you do. As I have seen you mature from being the kid that always wanted to hang with you older brothers and playing ball with us all the time, I have enjoyed watching your journey to be fearless in your achievements. As I think about you my brother the passion and approach you have in life humbles yourself to be great and drives your success. Here are a few things I am certain about. You are confident, strong-willed, hard worker, loves to compete, loves his children, close to family and friends, and loves to have a good time. You are fashionable guy that's up on the latest trends and not afraid to do you. Being the life of the party, you create an environment that makes like fun and comfortable for those around you. These characteristics of Johnnie can make it difficult for a woman to handle and keep up with but as I have gotten to know Lillian more and more I can clearly see she's capable of being that woman. The deep connection and bond between the both of you is clear to see. You both have chosen to put God first, love your kids, close to families and friends, fashion trend setters and driven to be successful in everything you do.
As you both began to embark on the journey of marriage, Keep the faith, love and trust with each other and it will lead to an everlasting marriage.
Love you Brother.
Johnnie and I met while pledging Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Gamma Phi Chapter in 2003. He's a man with tremendous conviction and character. I can remember when I was down and out, with no place to go and no one to turn to, he stepped up and offered to help me without hesitation. For this and other things I am honored to be his best man and friend.
We all know that a true friend advises justly, assists readily, adventures boldly, takes all patiently, defends courageously, and continues as a friend unchangeably. This is an exact description of Johnnie. And for this America,he should go down in history as one of the greatest Americans.
Johnnie and I met in the spring of 2003 and have been close ever since. We went from Fraternity brothers to college roommates, and from roommates to brothers. For me, Johnnie has been a prayer partner, loyal confidant, advisor, comedian, stylist and even stood right next to me on my wedding day in 2009. He’s one of the strongest men I know and I’m sure my life is better because God allowed our paths to cross. I’m thankful that he and Lillian found each other, and I’m blessed and honored to be a part of their special day.
It seems like I've known Irb all my life, but we met as initiates to the greatest fraternity of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. in 2003. The fraternal "bond" brought us together, but after all is said and done he is as close to a brother as I will ever have. I don't think there is a day that passes where we don't find ourselves sending a joke through text (Johnnie Irby III doesn't like talking on the phone) or talking sports highlights. However, I know that if I ever get sidetracked, need another perspective, or just overall great advice, Irb has always been there for me. He is a loyal friend, trusting brother, and spiritual partner. He deserves to be overwhelmed with joy and happiness and I'm honored to share such an occasion with him and Lillian.
"Napkins!!!" "Those are napkins," referring to a few single dollar bills lying on the floor. This was the first thing I heard Lil Irb say when we met at a house party I had about five years ago. He was a guest of one of our mutual friends. We looked at each, died laughing and there a bond began. Fast forward to now, in that short amount of time you have become one of the closest people to me. You are my friend. A confidant. An inspiration. Most importantly, you have become my brother. I have the pleasure of being your son's godfather and now I get to stand alongside you on this special day. I love you and I wish you, your beautiful bride and your 'little" family nothing but the best. Shalom!
It's hard to believe that I met you almost 15 years ago, brother. From our first days, our fraternity labeled us as brothers but from then on, your impact in my life has definitely made us brothers. Describing you from the bond that we share, being a dedicated, trustworthy, and dependable man, would honestly, probably, barely even touch the surface of who you are on a daily basis. Your attention to detail leaves me in "awh" because of your compassion for impacting the lives of everyone around you. Having this spirit, let's me know that you and Lillian are going to have a marriage full of blessings for your new family. I'm definitely elated to have Lillian as my sister and I am thoroughly honored to participate in your special day. I pray that God richly blesses your union and may you be each other's strength and confidant on your journey of love. Always find assurance in the WORD and take care of your "package from God," handle her with care.
The cream of the crop. I met Johnnie Irby III via birth. Meaning I really didn't have much of a choice as to who I could call my brother. You have been nothing short of a great role model and positive influence on my life. Fast forward several years later and I wouldn't want the choice of having any other brother too choose from.
To my big little brother,
I know how strong you are and I know that's make you the man that you are today. You were so funny, brace and cheeky as a child. All the memories are what bonds me now to you. We grew to find we have a love that is very strong today. It's a love shared by our family that will never fade away. You are my brother not by choice, but by the nature of our great mother. I could have not chosen a better one you are the best on earth.
The groom and I have shared a friendship that dates back 28 years and counting. I remember like yesterday when my parents moved my family one street over from the Irby’s when I was 5 years old. Who knew that God would produce out of it a lifetime friendship that I don’t know where I’d be or what I would do without? We’ve been fortunate enough to grow up together, attend the same university, and even work together in our adult lives. We have been able to share many of life’s moments as friends supporting each other along the way. His iron sharpens mine and I am blessed to have a friend as great as Johnnie Irby III.
It is very hard to quantify in short what our friendship means. Johnnie is a remarkable guy that I have looked up to for most of my life. He is the definition of a genuine person. He has introduced me to many of his friends, who have become my friends. His family treats me as if I am one of their own. And if it would fit, he would give me the shirt off his back LOL. I am honored to be a part of him and Lillian’s big day. A man that has friends must shew himself friendly: And there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. Prov 18:24
Proverbs 27:17 states that iron sharpens iron. Our friendship helped to develop and sharpen each other into the kings that we are. Great men, created in the image of God. We are wise, strong brothers.
I never took a moment of our journey for granted. I remember when we first met back in 91" when my sister took me with her over your house. We hit it off fast, we had a blast, playing catch with the football. As time passed we became more like family. In middle school I knew I had a brother in you. You always pull down on my shoulder to let me know something "rub hands like birdman" I got you. The journeys we been on has excelled my expectations, there's no limitations to what God has in store.
I wish you a lifetime of happiness and peace, because throughout my hard times I knew I had a real brother on my side threw it all, we will never let each other fall. No matter what we've been through we stand tall.
We are brothers nothing will ever come between us. The Bible says that a man that finds a wife finds a good thing, and I say that a man that finds a best friend finds a brother forever. Always remember Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity. Congratulations my brother.
My daddy gives me money for being good, my birthday, and winning bets. He makes me work hard everyday. He makes me breakfast. He takes me fun places. He coaches me in different sports.
In order to allow all guests, including parents, an evening of relaxation we have chosen for our wedding day to be an ADULT ONLY occasion. We hope this advance notice means you are still able to share our big day and will enjoy having the evening off = )
The Reception will follow cocktail hour.
On Saturday,October 8th, it was my 29th Birthday and AAMU Homecoming. Everyone was in town and the plan for the night was to do VIP at one of the parties. However, what i didn't know was that my lovely Fiance had a huge SURPRISE up his sleeve!!
First off, he came to my apartment with a driver. From that moment, i should have known something was up, but i didn't think much into it LOL! We pull up to a building and Johnnie opens the car door for me. In my mind, things are becoming suspect because it's super quiet to be the club and nobody is outside, but i see cars = /. We walk up to the door (its pitch black as well) and he opens it; then a room full of people yell "SURPRISE" as i walk in!!! I was almost in tears to see everyone in the room that I love so much there (family, friends, ls's,etc). I still can't believe they managed to keep this secret from me for so long; because my Mom will spill the beans in a heartbeat LOL = )
But that wasn't all Mr.Irby had up his sleeve, before the clock struck midnight, Johnnie got on one knee and asked me to marry him. A night I will never forget and one of the best birthdays ever!!!
Check out the video to see how the night unfolds...
As we join as one, so will our families. Together we have three kids.
Christian,8, Caitlynn,6, and LJ,2.
How We Met
Oh how I met my love Johnnie.....
In March of 2014, I met Mr.Irby at our organization's Town Hall (yes, we work in the same org, but not directly in the same office (thank goodness LOL!). Lindsay and I were outside the auditiorium and he walks up with another coworker we know. While they were talking, he nudges Lindsay to introduce him to me. She knew he liked me, but never told me = /. Now that I think about it MANY people knew he liked me for two years and never told me LOL! Anywho, We said a simple (short) hey and that was that. I didn't think much of it. The next day our other mutual friend J Keith at work (who also knew Johnnie liked me) asked was it okay if Johnnie emailed me i said it was fine. He literally emailed me the next day with it marked "high importance" hahaha. We emailed at work and texted often. Everything was just friendly between us and so we eventually stopped communicating.
Anyways, fast forward some months, i reached back out to him randomly just to see how he was doing. His response was rather slow (tried to ignore me <haha> let him tell it), but he texted back. Some days later, he asked me to lunch and I said YES! That was the day something sparked for me. We went on several dates and decided to get to know each other more and let everything play out on its own. Everything else is pretty much history that led to us becoming an official couple some months later.
Johnnie's Two Cents:
This is the story all about how my life got flipped, and turned upside down....
I'd like to take a minute, so just sit right there while I'll tell you how I fell in love with this girl name "Lill". It was a pretty day outside, the birds were chirping and the grass was freshly cut (Although we were inside, I had to set the scenery). I walked out of the auditorium and I saw my cousin, "the plug" and I knew she and Lillian were cool. When I saw Lillian over there looking good, I give my cousin the look like introduce me to your friend. My cousin began to chuckle and grin. So I waited around, checking my fit to make sure I was fresh for my introduction. I had a haircut that day so I knew I was ready. We all started walking together and out the blue my cousin says "hey Lillian I want to introduce you to my fine ass cousin Johnnie" (I embellished some there).
In my mind: I thought Lill would stop and tell me how she had been checking me out at work, and how she liked my style of dress... After giving me a compliment, we would talk for hours and exchange numbers.
What really happened: I'd never seen an introduction go by so fast. She literally reached her hand out and said hi nice to meet you (barely turning her head) and kept walking. Let's just say I didn't make a great first impression... or did I? I waited a couple days to reach out to her, trying to be creative I thought it would be good idea to send an email of "High Priority". Strangely enough I thought it was the beginning of something wonderful, but not so fast my friend. We emailed all day the first day and I thought we were hitting it off. Can you all believe she even stole my number from a friend to text me?! Every day we talked I felt there was some resistance and eventually she went M.I.A. (I was like oh well her loss)
After her hiatus, we went to lunch as co -workers (hahaha) and she hasn't stop smiling nor been able to get enough of me ever since. I will always remember the first time I met Lill.
Johnnie is the son of Johnnie and Birdie Irby, Jr. He is a native of Mobile, Al. He is a proud graduate of Alabama A&M University, and holds an MBA from Florida Institute of Technology. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, Inc. Gamma Phi chapter. He is a very passionate coach and enjoys traveling in and out of the country. He is known to be life of the party. He once received a standing ovation from a juror's box. His charm is so contagious, vaccines have been created for it. At museums he is allowed to touch the art. He once challenged his reflection to a staring competition and won. He is the most interesting man in the world. Stay thirsty my friends.
Lillian (Lill) was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but is 'technically' a native of Huntsville. She is the daughter to the lucky parents Denise Davis and Tommy Jones. She was raised by her grandmother Lillie Coppin (RIH) majority of her life. She is a 2x graduate of Alabama A&M University where she received both her bachelors and MBA. She is a member of the best Sorority in the world, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,Incorporated.
To know Lill is to love her. She is very sweet person. She loves to laugh. She has a great sense of humor as to why her and Johnnie are a perfect match!
Outside of being Super Mom, Lill likes to catch up on her tv shows, go to the movies, exercise (Zumba!!) and reading. She loves makeup and fashion!! She has become an avid sports fan thanks to Johnnie = )
